Happy Monday folks!
Hair cut season is still in full swing so I’ve teamed up with the AMAZING team at @AvedaInstituteCanada at their Gastown, Vancouver location to rescue my hair and give it the proper summer lovin’ it desperately needs! Now, as many of you know, I have never coloured or chemically treated my hair so you could probably agree when I say that I can be pretty picky when it comes to a hair salon – colour can easily be corrected…a cut can’t so you gotta know who you’re dealing with 🙂 Luckily for me, my hair was in the trusty hands of the staff at Aveda, so this is one of those rare occasions where you can sit back and relax and let the specialists do their job.
The staff at the Aveda were experts at making me feel welcomed. They started off my appointment with a tour of the facilities. You know, usually you don’t get to experience that “back-end” side where all the magic happens. The trial-and-error, the learning, the creativity, the ideas, most of the time you just see the front end of salons and only experience the “finished product”. It really just makes your experience THAT much better to be able to know and understand a piece of history and how it all got started. My absolute favourite part of the tour was when I learned that the original owner, who had built the Gastown Aveda location, placed a coin of money in front of each doorway inside the building – hoping it would bring good luck and success. It was just something so special and sentimental to take back and it really shows the passion and love the owner had when Aveda was first built here in Vancouver. Also, what I love about the Aveda Gastown location is that is serves as an academy. So you can really tell that a lot of passion and hard work goes on inside this amazing place. Its not just a high-end “fluffy” salon, they take great pride and determination in what they teach, learn, and when they invite customers to come in and become a part of that experience with Aveda, it really creates a special and welcoming environment.
Once I met with my stylist (she was so lovely) she took her time in getting to know me and discussing my hair type and preferences. She did an amazing job at explaining what she was going to do with my hair and all the products she was going to use. She started off by giving me a shoulder and scalp massage using the Aveda Shampure Composition calming aromatic oil. The oil had an amazing calming aroma with 25 pure flower and plant essences. It is great for moisturizing and you can use it on your hair/scalp, body, or a few drops in your bathwater for maximum relaxation. After that we went over to the washing station to give my hair some good r&r. She used the Aveda Dry Remedy moisturizing shampoo because my hair was super dry – most likely from all the flat ironing I’ve done. She had explained that the Dry Remedy moisturizing shampoo is best for dry, brittle hair because the deep-moisture complex, which features buriti oil, helps hydrate hair and leaves it soft, silky smooth, and shiny. Following that, she used the Aveda Dry Remedy moisturizing conditioner which also helps in keeping my hair well nourished and moisturized.
As for the cut, my hair was super long so we took off about a good 3-4 inches. I really just wanted her to clean up the dry and brittle split ends and THIN out my hair. Summer time – my hair is hot and heavy and I want nothing more than to constantly keep it up in a ponytail or bun. However with the wonderful help from Aveda, now my hair is light, thin, and easy to breathe so on those hot and humid summer days I can finally wear my hair down! They were going to finish off my wonderful appointment with some makeup application but I was already wearing a full face of makeup that day so I passed on that part. I did however spend some time browsing through their makeup stands and let my hands get a little dirty swatching all the wonderful colours of shadows and lip products they had.
Me being a beauty blogger, I am freakishly obsessed with ANYTHING to do with beauty – I think we can all raise our hand and be guilty of this 🙂 I really LOVE that Aveda is a “one-stop-shop” for anything beauty. You can literally walk in with your pyjamas and come out looking fabulous. From their hair products, to makeup, to skincare, and even their perfumes – they really have EVERYTHING you need in order to get beautified – and not to mention on a pretty affordable budget. Of course, its not drugstore cheap but its not overly priced and you really get amazing products for the price you pay. Also, forget going to a high end salon for a $80+ cut. Stop by an Aveda near you and book yourself an appointment. The prices of their haircuts/colours are super affordable and they really go out of their way to pamper you and make you leave feeling happy, refreshed, and beautiful.
Do you guys have any Aveda experiences you’d like to share or have tried their products before? I’d love to hear your thoughts so share your stories in the comments down below!
