One thing I absolutely just love about beauty subscription boxes is that I am often introduced to makeup or skincare brands I normally wouldn’t try on my own. Back in January I reviewed the Mapleblume December Box (you can read about it here). At first, I was a little skeptical about the price $120 per box but honestly after trying both the December & February boxes…I am sold! By the way, if you haven’t read my previous post on Mapleblume then you should know that you will receive a brand new box filled with a minimum of 5 premium skincare and cosmetic products every other month. I actually really like the idea of having a month-break in between boxes. This is a bit easier on your wallet AND it gives you enough time to try all the products in the box PROPERLY and use them up. I find that with any skincare products especially I need at least a solid 3 weeks to use before I can make any proper judgements on how I feel about the product. Alright so, let get down to business. Below you’ll find my individual product reviews for the Mapleblume February Box that I have been diligently testing over the past 30 days!
Odacité Ba + S Eye Serum Concentrate
First, I’ll start off with my number 1 top favourite product in the entire box. I fell in LOVE with this Odacité Ba + S Eye Serum Concentrate. I’m now getting into my late 20’s and my skin concerns have definitely changed over the past couple years. I am now deathly frightened of any lines and wrinkles so the more prevention I can do now the better! This eye serum is specifically designed to target your under-eye area (or at least that is what I use it for) especially because the skin around your eyes is delicate and thin. It is very rich in powerful vitamins to your skin such as A, E & F and plant sterols. It gives the area around your eye more elasticity to help reduce lines and wrinkles with Baobab oil. I love using this at night before I go to bed and I apply half a drop to each under-eye. In the morning when I wake up my eyes aren’t as puffy and I literally have no dark circles even with the small amount of sleep I usually get. It comes in a small bottle with a glass dropper so you can apply it easily and directly onto your skin. Once I apply the drops onto my face, I then GENTLY massage my under-eye area in a “lifting-upwards” motion. It kind of smells like lavender & tea-tree oil and at first I wasn’t sure how I felt about it but now I am actually obsessed with the scent. It soothes me greatly 🙂 Overall I am totally in LOVE with this serum and I cannot wait to buy some more!
Hylamide Low-Molecular HA Rehydration Booster
Well since we are on our favourites, this is my second favourite product in the box. The Hylamide Low-Molecular HA Rehydration Booster from The Abnormal Beauty Company is unlike anything I’ve ever tried before. I actually had to do a little bit of research on this product because 1) I have never heard about this brand prior to this 2) I wasn’t really sure how to use this product. So off I went to research the brand and product so I could have a better idea of what to expect. First of all I would like to say that this product is a godsend for people like me who tend to have oily skin! I find it sometimes tricky to properly moisturize without looking like a glazed doughnut throughout the day. So basically, HA which stands for Hyaluronic Acid and is found in our skin naturally. However, because the molecule is too large to penetrate our skin it just kind of sits there on the surface and pulls moisture out. This booster reverses that process. It contains low-molecular HA so that it can actually penetrate the skin and push moisture back in leaving you with plump & hydrated skin. It does this through 5 different forms of HA compounds. The very low-molecular HA offers rehydration with better topical absorption than ordinary HA from our skin. The Hyaluronic Acid Ferment is purified non-animal source hyaluronic acid for oil-free surface hydration which doesn’t cause your skin to be oily. The Hydrolyzed HA is another low-molecular form of HA to support lower to middle skin rehydration so that it can penetrate deep into your skin. The HA Pre-Cursor acts as a precursor to HA and encourages a plump look from underneath your skin. Lastly, the Plant HA is a Tamarind-derived HA technology to improve the overall look of your skin’s elasticity. This rehydration booster is light enough to wear on its own underneath your makeup or you can mix a few drops into your moisturizer as well if you prefer something much lighter. I find that because it is so light it does not clog my pores one bit and I can tell my skin can breathe properly. Overall I love this product and now sits on my nightly skincare routine vanity tray. This booster is also alcohol-free, silicone-free, nut-free, vegan, and cruelty-free (which is the most important factor to me).
Biodara Luminous Cleansing Oil
Whenever a product comes in beautiful and gorgeous packaging it just wins me over without having to try it. Does anyone else feel that way sometimes? The packaging box this cleansing oil came in was so beautiful I couldn’t convince myself to throw it out. I mean common it has MARBLE and gold on it!! Every blogger’s favourite print 🙂 You’ve won me over already, Biodara 🙂 This cleansing oil is now part of my weekly “pamper myself spa day” ritual. Just the process of cleansing my face with this oil makes me feel like I’m extra-relaxed. I haven’t heard of Biodara prior to this box but as I mentioned earlier, this is what I love about subscription boxes, I get to sample all these freaking AMAZING products for my skin that I would have never come across before because lets face it, there are a billion products of skincare and makeup out in the world today. This oil, like the rest of the products in this box, is made up of organic ingredients. It contains organic sunflower oil, organic castor seed oil, organic pumpkin seed oil, tocopherol (non-gmo vitamin e), organic lavender oil, organic grapefruit oil, organic lemongrass oil, organic clary sage oil. All those amazing ingredients combined help soothe, hydrate, and overall regenerate your skin. Another thing I thought was really cool, and haven’t seen before, is that it comes with a reusable eco cotton cleansing cloth that micro exfoliates your skin. So here’s how it works. Typically I like to use this on a make-up free face because I feel like it has a better effect on my skin but you can do it with make-up on if you’re using this as a makeup remover/cleanser of sorts. Take a few pumps of the cleansing oil and massage it into your face and neck. Wet the cleansing cloth in hot (not scolding hot, guys!) water and spread the cloth on your face so that your pores can open. Wait about 40 seconds for the cloth to cool then use it to rub the cleansing oil all over your face and gently exfoliate and remove all the dirt and makeup off your face. Rinse and voila 🙂
FIG + YARROW Complexion Water
Okay so this product took some time getting use-to and loving. At first I just did not like it. The scent was just not for me. I think if it smelled a little different I would be all over it, but just couldn’t do it with this one. This product is a complexion spray from Fig+Yarrow. It is meant to be reparative, balancing, toning and aromatherapeutic to your skin. I am actually kind of glad that I forced myself to use this product even though I wasn’t too fond of the scent. The yarrow, immortelle, and rockroseis are basically a blend of reparative botanicals particularly beneficial for sun-damaged, youth-depleted and fundamentally troubled skin. I would use this product at night time before I apply my nightly skincare routine because I’ll be going to sleep anyway so the scent doesn’t bother me while I sleep. I will never let a product go to waste 🙂 The cool thing about this is that you don’t need to only use it on your face! You can use it head-to-toe for face, hair, and full body hydration and aromatherapeutic benefits. The three main essential oils are good for wound-healing, signs of again, and skin defense. Now that spring is around the corner and I’ll be coming out of hibernation into society I’ll definitely throw this into my bag and use it as a skin defence mist.
RMS Beauty Living Luminizer
I think luminizers and highlighters are my favourite makeup product. They are just simply gorgeous. If I could bathe in luminizer I think I honestly would. This Luminizer from RMS beauty is pretty awesome if you ask me. It’s cream based in the one shade that is almost a sheer-like translucent satin finish. I think it would look great on any skin tone because you can apply more or less and control how you want it to look with your skin tone. For days that I don’t feel like wearing makeup but I still want a little life and light on my face I like using this. ALSO because its so compact and you can use your fingers to apply it, I bring it with me on the go incase I need a glow-touchup. It applies very smoothly and doesn’t feel sticky or greasy like some cream based luminizers do. In addition to putting this on my cheekbones, down the bridge of my nose, along the inner corners of my eyes, and on my cupid’s bow, I like to use it as an eyeshadow base to illuminate and really make my eyes pop.
Hynt Beauty LIBRE Luxurious Lip Gloss
Lastly, we have the Hynt lip gloss in the shade “Libre”. The shade is just absolutely gorgeous. Personally, I feel that it is a little too dark for me so I like to wear it just on its own without any lipstick underneath. This way it doesn’t feel as dark. It contains organic castor seed oil, organic coconut oil, organic shea butter, organic grapefruit seed, and organic jojoba oil so you know it will not leave your lips dry and peeling. Unlike some other glosses, this gloss isn’t sticky which I love! The shade “Libre” is almost like a satin nude rose gold. It has the faintest bit of shimmer in it to really make your lips look beautiful and pop.
